"GRITeam - Hong Kong Four Poles" Leadership Programme: The East Pole of HKG - Tung Ping Chau

Hong Kong - April 2025

Generously sponsored by Centaline Charity Fund and jointly organized by Inspire Education Association and the Hong Kong Professional Association for the Gifted and Talented, the "GRITeam - Hong Kong Four Poles" leadership program successfully completed its final challenge on April 18, 2025. Students conquered Hong Kong's easternmost extremity at Tung Ping Chau, marking a perfect conclusion to this extraordinary journey across Hong Kong's four geographical poles.

Guided by instructors, the team braved three spectacular geological wonders: scaling the unique rock formations of Cham Keng Chau, traversing the rugged coastline of Lung Lok Shui, and conquering the towering 7-meter-high Kang Lau Shek pillars. Students examined sedimentary rock layers including shale, siltstone, and mudstone up close, while instructors explained the tectonic movements and deposition processes that formed these 60-million-year-old geological marvels - a true "living geology textbook" experience.

The intertidal zone exploration proved particularly fascinating, with students discovering glistening sea salt crystals, Goose Barnacles, and floating Sargassum ecosystems. The program's climax came when participants reached Hong Kong's easternmost point at Ma Kok Tsui, where they were rewarded with panoramic views of Dameisha Beach in Shenzhen across the shimmering waters.

Having completed all four challenges, "GRITeam - Hong Kong Four Poles" has not only taken students to Hong Kong's geographical extremes but also cultivated their leadership, teamwork, and scientific inquiry skills. This innovative program blending geology, ecology, and outdoor leadership training has created unforgettable growth experiences for all participants.
