Project Dissemination of "Enhancing Equality in Learning Opportunity - Develop effective school-based enrichment programmes for under-achievers with high ability in low social economic status”

Hong Kong - June 2024

On June 15, 2024, the "Enhancing Equality in Learning Opportunity - Develop effective school-based enrichment programmes for under-achievers with high ability in low social economic status" achievement presentation was held an online and offline at the Education University of Hong Kong’s Tai Po Campus.

This project was launched in June 2021 with the aims to provide equal learning opportunities for underprivileged students and helping them improve academic achievements and overall development. The participating seed schools have developed and implemented various school-based enrichment courses over the past years, covering academic support, interest development, and character education.

During the presentation, three teachers from the participating seed schools shared the practical experiences and outcomes from the programme. They discussed how they design and implement effective enrichment courses based on students' needs, and highlighting challenges and achievements during the implementation process.

The event also featured a keynote speech by Dr. Patrick Hak-Chung Lam, Chief Principal, ELCHK Lutheran Academy, the former Associate Director of HKAGE, on "Gifted-isation in and of the regular curriculum”, Dr. Lam explored how to integrate the gifted education and mainstream education within the current education framework.

Additionally, Professor Kenneth Sin Kuen-Fung (MH), the Professor in the Department of Special Education and Counselling (SEC), Executive Director of Institute of Special Needs and Inclusive Education (ISNIE) at the Hong Kong Institute of Education, also shared his insights from the perspective of "Caring for Diversity and Building on Love". He discussed how we can cater students' diverse needs through differentiated instruction.

The organizer has also presented the certificates to the teachers upon their completion of the programme.
